Chapter 8

Gaining Wisdom from Spirit

In chapter 5, you were introduced to Deep Knowledge Meditation as a means of relaxing, focusing, and looking inside of yourself for answers to important questions. This form of Deep Knowledge Meditation that you learned previously utilized your own inner wisdom and intuitive truth to gain insight before taking “wise action.”

However, now we’re going to discuss Deep Knowledge Meditation as a practice for connecting with something outside of yourself. This practice is much like using Deep Knowledge Meditation in the traditional sense of prayer. Essentially, you are directing your thoughts and questions to the other side of the plane of existence, beyond this world in which we live. Using Deep Knowledge Meditation in this way, you can direct your thoughts and questions to your concept of God, the collective consciousness of the universe, your relatives who have died and crossed over to the other side, spirit guides, angels, or even to your “higher self.”

In this way, you do not need to rely solely on the limited knowledge and wisdom that you have learned and collected on earth over the years. You can instead reach beyond yourself for knowledge, wisdom, and answers by focusing on the spiritual realm beyond your earthly existence. To begin, think about the type of information you’re looking for, and then ask yourself “who” or “what” might give you the best answer from the spiritual realm. And, as you’ll see in the examples that follow, it’s okay if you call on different entities for different types of questions. But again, be specific in your heart, thoughts, and words about what you’re looking for and from whom or what you are seeking guidance. Think of the process as analogous to sending off a “spiritual email.” You wouldn’t leave the mailing address blank in your email and still expect to get a response. You’d have to pick a person to send it to. The same rule applies here, too. Being specific about your “spiritual addressee” makes it easier to get an answer to your question.

Also, be aware that the answers you get might not come in the clearest, most direct way, nor might they be understandable when you initially receive them. That’s okay. Just do your best to express gratitude to whomever you asked for guidance, record your answer, and be patient. Sometimes the answer you receive will become clearer in the days or weeks after your meditation. Yes, unfortunately, the answers you are seeking will not always appear to you instantaneously, the moment you ask them. We know this is disappointing—for us too! However, we do not pretend to know exactly how the spiritual world works, nor exactly how our guides, higher powers, or higher selves communicate with us. Sometimes your answer might come as words, but sometimes it might also come as a feeling, or even a sense of knowing. There are many ways that your question could be answered. Do your best to remain open to all of them.

Also, the answers you get might sound foreign or surprising to you.
